There are plans to convene a meeting of farmers and officials under the leadership of Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar to discuss the steps that should be taken to complete the Upper Bhadra Project at the earliest, Hiriyur MLA Poornima Srinivas said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after attending a programme here, she said the problems related to delay in completing the project would be discussed and information collected information from officials and farmers’ leaders.
According to officials, the project has been delayed owing to scarcity of funds, some technical reasons and loose soil in some places near the project area. All these issues would be discussed with the Minister concerned and a solution arrived at, she added.
She also said there were plans to conduct gram sabhas for allotting houses under government schemes for beneficiaries in Hiriyur constituency. Steps have also been taken to submit a memorandum to the government seeking resolution of problems related to horticulture crops in the taluk.
There are 335 government schools in Hiriyur taluk, and the condition of 200 is pathetic. Steps would be takento construct new school buildings in these areas by spending Rs. 20 crore, she said.
