Minister launches Anandur lift irrigation project at Yelwal

Minister for Minor Irrigation C.S. Puttaraju on Monday gave a start to the Anandur Lift Irrigation Project which will facilitate filling of water in the lakes in Yelwal hobli of Mysuru taluk.

Speaking after the launching the project at Anandur village, the Minister said water will be filled in Bhojanakatte, Gendekere, Nodehalla Kere, Marikolakere, Ramanakatte, Dadadakallahalli Kere, Bacchalagere Kere, Hoovinakola kere, Honnekatte Kere, Gonekatte Kere, Urchikatte Kere, Chatradakoppalu Kere, Eranayakanakatte, Anandur Koppal Kere, and Nagahalli Kere in the next 120 days. Besides these lakes in Mysuru taluk, nine lakes in Hunsur taluk will also be filled with water.

He said heavy-duty transformers will be installed for lifting water under the project and added that he will discuss the matter with the officials from the Irrigation Department and Energy Department.

For livestock

Describing Yelwal hobli as a drought-prone area, he said the hobli has several lakes and most of them have dried up. By filling them up through the lift irrigation project, drinking water will be provided to the livestock.

Earlier, the Minister visited some lakes in the hobli and asked the officials to take up the development works. He directed the authorities to ensure that the lakes were free from encroachments.

Minister for Higher Education G.T. Deve Gowda, who was present, warned of action against officials who fail to implement programmes meant for the poor and asked them to transparently execute the projects in the constituency.

He said engineering and polytechnic colleges will be sanctioned to Badami constituency following an appeal from former Chief Minister and Badami MLA Siddaramaiah.
