Mob attacks police station

An angry mob pelted the Rapur police station in Nellore district with stones, allegedly upset over police personnel detaining a person, on Wednesday.

The injured, including Rapur sub-inspector Lakshman Rao and constable Suresh and some villagers, were rushed to the government hospital, Rapur, for treatment, Nellore Special Branch Dy.SP Kota Reddy said.

Trouble started after Rajesh, a resident of SC Colony, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition, was picked up for questioning. Soon, over 100 persons from the colony rushed to the police station. They threw stones after a heated argument with the police personnel causing head injuries to the police personnel.

The situation was brought under control after additional forces were rushed from nearby police stations.
