Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish inaugurated a new school building, constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh, at Panchayat Union Primary School at Singaneri near Nanguneri on Wednesday.
The new building, sponsored by HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company, has five classrooms, computer lab, 3 physically challenged students-friendly toilets, play equipment and park while P. Raghunathan of Singaneri has sponsored purified drinking water facility.
After the students’ strength of the school fell sharply from 90 to 45, the villagers took special efforts to increase the strength by creating adequate infrastructure, particularly constructing the new building after removing the dilapidated structure.
While HDFC Ergo’s Ramakrishnan, hailing from Singaneri, managed to persuade his higher-ups to sponsor the new school building, the villagers, on their part, took special efforts to enrol more children in the school.
Ms. Shilpa lauded the villagers’ efforts in virtually giving rebirth to the school and appreciated the private firm for coming forward to equip a rural school on a par with the private matriculation schools.
She said the district administration would construct toilets in schools that had not created the facility so far. Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, A. Palani, and others participated.
