NIA probe sought into murders

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the murders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activist Shymaprasad and Students Federation of India activist Abhimanyu, alleging that the police investigation was not making any headway.

Party leader P.K. Krishnadas alleged at a news conference here on Thursday that Popular Front of India (PFI) activists were involved in both the murders.

He alleged that as there was an understanding between the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the PFI and the cases were not being investigated properly.

Mr. Krishnadas alleged that the PFI was an extremist group and their foreign links and source of funding should be exposed.

He urged the State government to provide documents to the Centre so that the organisation could be banned.

However, Mr. Krishnadas also took potshots at the CPI(M), asking if the party’s stand on the PFI had changed since the Abhimanyu murder.
