No respite from rain

Heavy rain continued to lash many parts of Sakleshpur and Arkalgud taluks of Hassan district on Thursday. Several roads were inundated, power supply disrupted, and a few houses damaged.

Vanagur in Sakleshpur taluk recorded 207 mm of rain in the 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. on Thursday — the highest rainfall recorded in the State on the day. Children had difficulty getting to school. Two houses each at Gangur and Madihalli of Arkalgud taluk collapsed. One house each at Mugalur, Ajjur, Baragur Lakshmipura, and Honnavalli were also affected.

Vast tracts of agricultural land at Parasanahalli were inundated as a tank in the village overflowed. The villagers urged the district administration to assess the loss they suffered and release suitable compensation.

Hassan district received an average rainfall of 26.3 mm on Wednesday, as against the normal of 8.7. Since June 1, the district has received an average rainfall of 420.9 mm, while the normal rainfall is 248.7 mm.
