Officials told to complete highway works

M. Mallikarjun Kharge, MP and Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has said that officials of the National Highways Authority of India should complete the highway works that were sanctioned for Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts.

He was chairing a district development coordination and monitoring committee (DISHA) meeting here on Friday.

Mr. Kharge, who reviewed the development works taken up under the grants released by the Centre, said that officials are not working as expected despite there being hectic efforts in releasing grants from Centre.

“Now, the time has come for officials to complete the ongoing projects expeditiously,” he said.

He also strictly warned officials to complete the multi-village drinking water schemes.

Mr. Kharge said that he would release half of the amount from his MP grants to take up repair work of the motors which would lift and supply drinking water to 32 villages after Basareddy Gowda Malipatil, president of the zilla panchayat, said that Rs. 36 lakh is needed to repair the motors.

J. Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner, who was present in the meeting, said that 73,602 toilets were built under the Swachh Bharat Mission scheme as against the target of 1,23,663 toilets.
