The State Highways Department is expected to complete the road overbridge work going on at Podanur shortly and throw it open for use by the public.
An official of the department said the Rs. 25-crore project was started in 2015-16. It was scheduled to be completed in one-and-a-half years. The Highways Department has completed its portion of work. The railways has also completed most of the work. It has put six spans as part of its work as the alignment of the track is a curve at Podanur. Only minor works remain.
The bridge is 12 metres wide and 833 metres long and has service roads.
The official said that the service road use was high now as the bridge was yet to be inaugurated. A leak in water pipe recently damaged the road. “We will set it right in a couple of days. The use of service road is expected to reduce when the bridge is thrown open,” the official said.
