Police arrest flower vendor with a penchant for stealing laptops

The Electronics City police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man who sold flowers during the day and moonlighted as a thief at night. He allegedly had a penchant for electronic goods. Police recovered 49 laptops from him.

The accused, Sudhakar, hails from Hosur in Tamil Nadu. He would come to the flower market in Madiwala to sell flowers. In his free time, he would scout neighbourhoods in the South East division and identify houses where the owners were out of town.

“In the last three months, he stole over 49 laptops and has been giving us sleepless nights. Most of his victims were software engineers,” said a police officer.

The Electronics City police, who were worried about a sudden escalation in laptop thefts in the area, had intensified patrolling. They zeroed in on Sudhakar when they saw him ‘moving around suspiciously in a locality’.

When questioned, he confessed to the crimes. “Based on his confession, we have recovered stolen laptops, which he had sold in electronic shops in Hosur and Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu,” said an officer.

The police also recovered 510 grams of gold jewellery from him.
