Belagavi City Corporation is looking into the allegations that the flag code was violated by an agency responsible for the maintenance of the tallest national flag in the country in the Fort Lake here.
Corporation commissioner Shashidhar Kurer has ordered an inquiry and sent a notice to the private company tasked with the maintenance of the flag. He had received complaints that the flag that was lowered was kept in a water tank, covered in plastic. The flag has now been kept in the Belagavi Urban Development Authority office, as per protocol. Agency officials said that it was lowered to protect it from damage during heavy rain and gusty winds.
MLA Anil Benake, who visited the spot on Sunday, reprimanded the agency staff.
