Raghuveera writes to CM on web counselling

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy wrote to Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu on Thursday regarding the apparent injustice caused to backward class students during the MBBS web counselling that was held recently.

In the letter, Dr. Raghuveera recalled how students belonging to backward classes lost almost 500 seats during the web counselling this year.

He mentioned that GO number 550 was not taken into consideration during the counselling process.

The GO No. 550 that was upheld in 1991 by the Supreme Court states that if a reservation candidate draws back from the college to join another course or college after admission process, the spot must be open only for candidates under reservation. He questioned whether the incident happened as an accident or with the knowledge of authorities, and mentioned that either way, it was the lives of backward class students that was at stake. He demanded the government get the stay vacated by the High Court. He also requested for the cancellation of the counselling , and to conduct another round on the basis of GO No. 550.
