Rotting body of a woman found in locked house in Gurugram, spouse missing

The decomposed body of a woman, suspected to be in her early 20s, was found in a rented room in Binola village, Bilaspur, around 2.30am Wednesday. Police said the body was discovered after neighbours complained of foul smell and called the police.

Police said the woman’s husband, who works as a helper with a private company in the city, may have allegedly strangled her to death after an altercation between the two a few nights ago and escaped after locking the house from the outside.

Bilaspur station house officer Rajender said the woman was possibly killed on Sunday night.

Forensic expert Deepak Mathur, who conducted the autopsy, said the cause of death was strangulation and apart from neck, there were no other visible injury marks on the body. “The body was partially decomposed and it seems that it was lying for at least two to four days,” Mathur said.

The woman’s body was handed over to her family after the post-mortem on Wednesday. Based on the statement of woman’s father, a case of murder was registered against the husband.

“The couple was married for over four years and stayed in a rented room in the village. At the time of the incident, their toddler was at her maternal grandparents’ house, also in the same village. Prima facie, it appears that the woman was strangled to death by her husband. After killing her, he locked the house from outside and escaped,” SHO said.

Police said the suspect was on the run. “The victim’s father suspects the role of her husband in the murder. He said the couple had fought recently,” SHO said.

The SHO, however, said the reason for the alleged murder is yet to be ascertained.
