College students would now have police assistance within their reach as Guntur Rural Police has decided to post women personnel outside colleges. Under the initiative – Sabala, launched on Friday at the Police Kalyana Mandapam.
Phone numbers of women police personnel would be given to students, who could call them in case of harassment, the identity of the caller would be kept confidential, said Superintendent of Police Guntur SP Ch. Venkat Appalanaidu.
Launching Sabala, AP Women’s Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari said the initiative could help curb growing atrocities against women in the State.
Deputy Inspector General of Police K.V.V. Gopala Rao lauded the initiative saying it would boost the image of police.
