Deputy Commissioner M. Kanagavalli inaugurated a Saviruchi mobile canteen, to be run by a woman non-governmental organisation (NGO) federation, in Koppal on Monday.
The mobile canteen concept was introduced on an experimental basis to empower women by the State Women Development Corporation and Women and Child Development Department. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kanagavalli said that women, who are capable of taking up challenges, should come forward to become self-reliant by making use of the assistance being given by the government.
She also underlined the need for the woman NGO to ensure supply of quality food.
Deputy Director Women and Child Development C.D. Geeta said that tasty meal would cost Rs. 40 and tiffin Rs. 20. The mobile canteen would visit the district administration building, district hospital, court and bus stand to cater to the public.
The federation was given a soft loan of Rs. 10 lakh to run the mobile canteen from the corporation. In turn, it had to repay Rs. 15,000 in 67 easy monthly instalments.
