Security around key buildings to be tightened in Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) will be deploying guards at key institutions around Vidhana Soudha, including Vikas Soudha, MS Building, Raj Bhavan, and the High Court.

“Though a platoon of KSISF is deployed at the Vidhana Soudha, security cover has been extended to other buildings to provide comprehensive security cover,” a senior police officer said.

The decision was taken after a series of security lapses at MS Building and the attack on the Lokayukta at his office. A KSISF unit, headed by a senior officer, will be set up to supervise the security measures. The comprehensive security means that unnecessary movement of people into these offices will be limited, sources said. Until now, City Armed Reserve police personnel were deployed for security cover.

Senior police officials, including the city Police Commissioner, have held talks to chalk out modalities, and a detailed report has been submitted to the DG&IGP for final approval.

With the new system in place, motorist movement on the thoroughfare between Vikas Soudha and High Court may be restricted, said a senior police officer. “There was an old agreementbetween the city police and advocates about using the road cutting through the High Court and Vikas Soudha, which needs to be reconsidered. Except for this, other security-related issues, including the plan for the KSISF, has been discussed,” the senior officer said.

The Home Department had also sanctioned funds to upgrade the security gadgets installed at the Lokayukta office. The city police had procured a baggage scanner and a door frame metal detector which would replace the existing ones, another senior police officer pointed out.
