Security has been strengthened in Amboori and nearby areas, including Vellarada, following clashes between Congress and CPI(M) activists that left many injured a day ago.
Over 10 activists of both parties, including Amboori grama panchayat president Shaji, were injured in a late-night clash on Monday. A few were hospitalised with serious injuries.
The incident took place when CPI(M) workers were holding a demonstration in protest against the attack on SFI activists at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam. It was during the same time that the Congress activists were agitating against the alleged vandalism of their flex boards and banners, purportedly by CPI (M) workers.
As the two groups came to face to face near Vellarada junction, provocative remarks gave way to an altercation and soon, a full-blown brawl.
A dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Congress in Amboori in protest against the incident passed off peacefully on Tuesday.
