‘Youth Environmental Talents 2018,’ a special talent programme, was conducted on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day by Caring Nature, a non-government organisation, here on July 29.
At least 1,000 school and college students took part. A ‘green exhibition’ was inaugurated and departments like Khadi, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development disclosed their plans to protect the environment. Collector A. Sivagnanam distributed prizes.
The NGO explained a new waste management system that would provide employment while making the district greener. Waste from the vegetable market would be collected, segregated and processed. Two tonnes of vermi compost, 70 litres of energy fuel would be created.
