Sri Ranga Narayana Jeer, the Jeer of Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple and the 50th Pontiff of Sri Ramanuja Mutt, was laid to rest at Srirangam on Thursday.
A large number of devotees from various places converged at the Ramanuja Mutt adjoining the temple to offer their respects. Water from Coleroon river was brought in earthen pots for performing the
Thirumanjanam.
Verses from the Vedas and Divya Prabhandham were recited.
Temple honours came from various Divyadesams, including Tirupathi, Kancheepuram, Thirukkurunkudi and Srivilliputtur apart from Srirangam temple.
The body was taken to the ‘Udayavar Thoppu’ near Alavandar Padithurai along the Coleroon and laid to rest after brief rituals.
Jeers of Srivilliputtur, Mannargudi, Thirukkurunkudi and Coimbatore, besides Swamigal from Poundarikapuram Ashram in Srirangam, were present. Earlier in the day, State Ministers Vellamandi Natarajan and S. Valarmathi offered their respects.
