PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Tuesday said that the legislation passed by the State government for setting up a Lokayukta in Tamil Nadu had proved that his worst fears had come true. The PMK leader said the government had “erected a scarecrow instead of posting a brave warrior as the security guard.”
In a statement, he said the State government had enacted the legislation to meet the deadline set by the Supreme Court and due to the pressure from political parties like the PMK. “But it has also ensured that the Lokayukta would turn a blind eye to its corrupt practices. It has nowhere mentioned [in the Bill] that the Chief Minister will come under the jurisdiction of the Lokayukta, but seeks to consider him as one of the Ministers under Section 2 (1),” Mr. Ramadoss said.
