Tanker kills two on Sinhagad road in Pune

A speeding milk tanker crashed into five vehicles on Navale bridge on Sinhagad road between 4.30 and 4.45 pm on Wednesday, killing two persons riding on a two-wheeler on the spot and leaving several others injured.

According to the police, the tanker driver lost control over the wheels and crashed into some of the parked and moving vehicles.

The accident led to a massive traffic jam on the road. The two persons riding on the two-wheeler died due to shock and head and chest injuries. The policemen on patrol duty indentified the deceased as Umesh Ramesh Supekar, 28, a resident of Rajnigandha Society in Dhayari, while the pillion rider was identified as Kunal Shivaji Kshirsagar, 24, a resident of Hingane Mala in Hadapsar.

Vishwajeet Jagtap, assistant police inspector (API), said that both the deceased worked as pest control boys. The tanker was on its way to Mumbai from Kolhapur when the accident took place. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the tanker driver identified as Suraj Kudave, 33, a resident of Koregaon in Satara district, on charges of rash and negligent driving.

Former deputy sarpanch killed

The former deputy sarpanch of Bhiwari village in Purankar taluka of the district was bludgeoned to death with a stone by unidentified assailants on Tuesday night. According to the police, the deceased identified as Santosh Sadu Dalvi, 36, had a quarrel with a few people over some issue and was reportedly attacked by them. While he was on his way, he was attacked and killed by some unidentified persons, the police said. Police officers investigating the case said that the assailants fled the scene under the cover of darkness. A case of murder has been lodged by the Saswad police.
