Theatre fest begins in Shivamogga today

Theatre aficionados in the city will get an opportunity to enjoy popular plays staged by the artistes of Vrutti Rangabhoomi, Kannada professional theatre companies, at a theatre fest at Suvarna Samskruti Bhavan from July 14 to 17.

M. Ganesh, director, Rangayana, Shivamogga, told presspersons on Friday that the event is organised to mark World Theatre Day and to commemorate theatre activist late K.V. Subbanna. He said that the objective of the fest was to promote meaningful interaction between artistes of Vrutti Rangabhoomi and Havyasi Rangabhoomi, amateur theatre troupes.

Nadoja Subhadramma Mansur, veteran theatre personality, will inaugurate the event on July 14 at 6 p.m. K.S. Eshwarappa, former Deputy Chief Minister, and N.R. Vishu Kumar, director, Department of Kannada and Culture, will be guests.

The following will be staged:
Hemareddy Mallamma
by Natyarani Kala Sangha, Ilkal (July 14, directed by Nadoja Subhadramma Mansur);
Sathya Harishchandra
by Rangaseva Kalasangha, Vijayapura (July 15, directed by L.B. Shekha Masthara);
Shivasharane Akkamahadevi
by Sri Shivakumareshwara Krupaposhitha Pundit Panchakshara Gawai Natya Sangha, Gadag (July 16, directed by Revanasiddiah Swamy Hosuru Mutt); and
Dubai Doolappana bharjari gaala
by Rangayana, Shivamogga (July 17, directed by L.B. Shekha Masthara). The show will commence on all days at 6.30 p.m.
