Toddler ‘kidnapped’ from city found at Rayagada rly station

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped from Chavulamadum area of the city on Saturday evening was found at Rayagada Railway Station in Odisha on Sunday.

The boy, Sathwik, was found on a platform of Rayagada railway station in the morning hours with none attending to him.

Sathwik, a native of Srikakulam, has been putting up with with his uncle Rajendra and and aunt Appayamma at Chavulamadum for the past few months. Mr. Rajendra and his wife work in a hotel in the locality.

On Saturday evening, Sathwik was playing outside the hotel while Mr. Rajendra and Ms. Appayyamma were busy with their work. After a while, they realised that the boy was missing.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the couple, II Town Inspector G.V. Ramana alerted his team and the Government Railway Police personnel. The footage of the CCTV installed at the hotel showed Sathwik, holding a soft drink bottle, was walking with an unidentified man.

The GRP personnel also examined the footage of the CCTVs at the railway station and found Sathwik was walking with the same unidentified man. Three police teams from Vizag with the help of Odisha police conducted raids at different places before the child could be traced.

‘Boy in good health’

City Police Commissioner T. Yoganand said that though the child was traced, none was arrested as the unidentified person in the CCTV footage was not found at Rayagada railway station. “Further investigation is on to nab the culprit,” he added.

Meanwhile, sources in Police Department said they didn’t find any motive behind the ‘kidnap’ of the boy. The unidentified man might have taken the boy under the influence of alcohol and boarded a Rayagada-bound train. “The boy was found in good health and the police teams are returning to Vizag with the boy,” the police said.
