Transporters call for bandh

The Forum of Road Transport Workers and Owners Association has called a nationwide bandh on August 7 demanding the Union government withdraw the Motor Vehicles (amendment) Bill 2017. It termed the proposed Bill regressive, claimed it will go against the interests of drivers, and objected to hefty penalties for traffic violations. CITU State vice president Prakash K. said, “Drivers of autos, taxis, trucks and private buses would have availed loans. They face innumerable difficulties because of frequent increase in fuel prices, fees for registration and fitness certificate, renewal of licences and other exigencies. Besides, we also face harassment from police and transport officials over minor issues.”
