The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has clarified that a site has been selected in Bhupalpally district (earlier in Warangal) for the setting up of the Tribal University in Telangana as assured in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.
In the counter affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the Union Ministry said the process for establishment of Tribal University in Telangana was started simultaneously with that of the Central University and Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh. However, the Telangana government had delayed the land offer despite several reminders.
Subsequently, the Telangana government had offered two sites and a site selection committee of the MHRD visited these sites on February 23, 2017. The committee had selected the site at Bhupalpally and the same had been finalised with the approval of the Union Human Resources Development Minister.
The Telangana State Government had been communicated about the decision on May 1, 2017 and it was requested to provide land free from all encumbrances after getting forest and other clearances. “The same is awaited,” MHRD under secretary M.K. Meena said in the affidavit filed in response to the petition filed by senior Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy seeking the court’s intervention in ensuring the implementation of the promises made by the Centre during bifurcation of the erstwhile united State.
