With the delay in the execution of the underground drainage work causing hardship to the common people, Collector Kona Sasidhar on Thursday summoned the general manager of the Shapoorji and Pallonji Company from Mumbai and gave him a piece of his mind.
Several videos over the plight of the pedestrians have surfaced on social media in the last few days. With continuous rain, the dug up roads resembled cesspools making driving extremely dangerous.
At a review meeting in which Guntur MP Galla Jayadev was present, Mr. Sasidhar expressed his unhappiness over the tardy progress and asked the contracting agency to restore dug up roads.
Mr. Sasidhar also came up with the proposals to involve departments like the Road Transport Authority, the Labour and the R&B departments to provide logistical support like men and material in the restoration.
The Collector said 191 km CC roads and 229 km BT roads would be restored soon by partially using quarry dust with 20 tractors and 20 earth movers.
The assistant engineers of the Municipal Corporation would supervise the work on a daily basis. He also instructed the Superintending Engineer, GMC, to prepare the estimates for restoring the CC roads. He also asked the Deputy Commissioner, Labour, to provide labour to fill up pot holes and construction of inspection chambers.
Mr. Jayadev also expressed dissatisfaction over the tardy pace and said the agency had adopted a callous approach in dealing with such a massive engineering work.
Later, Municipal Commissioner Srikesh inspected the work at Seeth Nagar, Udyog Nagar and SVN Colony and instructed the personnel to expedite the work.
