It will be a grand Dasara this time: Minister

On his maiden visit to Mysuru after getting the Cabinet berth, G.T. Deve Gowda, Minister for Higher Education, on Friday, visited many temples with his family.

Mr. Gowda, who defeated former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Chamundeshwari constituency, will be holding a rally to express his gratitude to the people for voting for him by a huge margin. The rally will be held at Lingadevarakoppal on Sunday.

The Minister first visited Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills and offered special prayers. He later drove to his native Gungralchatra village and offered prayers to the family deity. Thereafter, he prayed at Uttanahalli temple before proceeding to Nanjangud to offer prayers at Srikanteshwaraswamy temple. He concluded his temple visits at Ankanatheshwara temple at Tagadooru.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Gowda said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was visiting Chamundi Hills on the first Friday of Ashada season. Thanks to bountiful rains across the State and brimming reservoirs, the coalition government will be celebrating Mysuru Dasara on a grand scale and decision in this regard had been taken at a recent meeting in Bengaluru, which was chaired by the CM.

Mr. Gowda, who was initially reluctant to accept the Higher Education Department and later took over the portfolio on the CM’s advice, said he is confident of successfully handling the department. He said steps had been taken to appoint guest lecturers to colleges.

On the issue over University of Mysore not getting a permanent Vice-Chancellor even after one and half years, he said the V-C will be appointed soon.

Responding to the recognition row of the Karnataka State Open University, the Minister said the matter was being discussed at the government level.
