Work for victory in ULB, LS elections: BSY

The BJP State unit president, B.S. Yeddyurappa, has called upon party activists in the district to sink differences and work unitedly for the forthcoming elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the Lok Sabha.

Addressing a meeting of the BJP district unit here on Wednesday, he said that in the recent Assembly elections, the BJP reclaimed its base in the district by winning six of the seven Assembly segments. He asked the party activists to maintain the momentum by ensuring victory in the election for ULBs also. In the previous Lok Sabha election, the BJP had won from Shivamogga seat by a margin of 3.62 lakh votes. The margin should increase in the next poll, he said.

Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation(AMRUT) scheme, Rs. 324 crore has been released by the Centre for Shivamogga and Bhadravathi cities.

The amount would be used to upgrade the basic civic amenities in both cities. He said that of 35 wards in Shivamogga City Corporation, the party should win at least 25.

Regarding the preparation for Lok Sabha election, he said that the party workers should commence door-to-door visits to create awareness among the voters on the welfare schemes launched by the Centre. The BJP Raitha Morcha should organise programmes to create awareness among the farmers on the loopholes in the crop loan waiver scheme announced by the JD(S)-Congress coalition government.

K.S. Eshwarappa, Shivamogga MLA; H. Halappa, Sagar MLA; K.B. Ashok, Shivamogga Rural MLA; Araga Jnanendra, Tirthahalli MLA; Kumar Bangarappa, Sorab MLA; Ayanur Manjunath and S. Rudre Gowda, MLCs, were present at the meeting.
