The Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court has convicted S. Sharafuddin, former secretary of Okkal grama panchayat, and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
The court also slapped a penalty of ₹1.10 lakh on him. Sharafuddin had asked for a bribe of ₹50,000 for renewing the licence of a company owned by Sudhir, a resident of Vallam. A team led by A.U. Sunilkumar, former DySP, Vigilance, Ernakulam unit, had arrested him from a rented house while he was receiving the money. The conviction order was passed by judge Kalam Basha of the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court.
