Four persons died and six injured in separate accidents in Udupi and Belagavi districts on Saturday.
In the first incident, two persons were killed and two injured in a collision between a car and a passenger vehicle near Santhekatte in Udupi district.
According to the police, the passenger vehicle was proceeding to Nejar from Ugelbettu, while the car was moving from Santhekatte to Brahmavar on NH 66.
According to the police, the car driver lost control over the car which crossed the divider and collided with the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, Shravan, the car driver, and Sundar Shettigar, the driver of the passenger vehicle, died.
Ganesh and Shivaraj, occupants of the passenger vehicle, were injured.
They have been shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
In Belagavi, two persons died and four were injured when the driver of a KSRTC bus lost control and it skidded on the road on the Pune-Bengaluru highway near Badekollada Matha in Belagavi taluk. The bus was going to Udupi from Belagavi. Ashok Dandi, 45, from Nichchaniki village in Belagavi district died on the spot. The police are yet to identify the other deceased. Ashok was a driver with the Udupi division of KSRTC.
He had come home for the holidays and was going back to join duty.
The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Hire Bagewadi.
The accident caused a traffic jam on the highway. Police had to use an earth-mover to remove the bus.
The Hire Bagewadi police have registered a complaint.
