DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday morning. A statement from the hospital says Mr. Karunanidhi has been admitted so his tracheostomy tube can be changed. “He will be discharged later today after recovering from this procedure,” says the statement signed by Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director, Kauvery Hospital.
The DMK chief was admitted in December 2016 to undergo a tracheostomy procedure to optimise breathing. The procedure was necessitated by the fact that he had breathing difficulty caused by a throat and lung infection.
Later, during another short stint at the hospital in 2017, his daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi said that the tube has to be replaced once every six months.
