COMING UP on OTT This January

The theatres may not see new movie releases for a while now due to the rising COVID cases, but there’s a lot of entertainment on OTT this January.

From light-hearted comedies to medical dramas to stories set in the heartland, there’s something for everyone.

Joginder Tuteja looks at the OTT releases this month.

 

Kaun Banegi Shikharwati
Release date: January 7

Naseeruddin Shah leads the cast of this comedy, and is joined by Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra, Anya Singh, Cyrus Sahukar and Raghubir Yadav.

A contemporary film about a dysfunctional family which fights it out amongst itself to inherit the throne of Shikharwati, this Emmay Entertainment (Nikkhil Advani, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani) show has Applause Entertainment joining hands, making it one of the biggest ever on the ZEE5 platform.

Naseer, who had been tired of serious roles, gets a chance to bring on the laughs.

 

Cubicles Season 2
Release date: January 7

Cubicles is about Piyush Prajapti, who gets recruited in an Indian IT company. Season 2 follows him around his office and his life.

The show stars Abhishek Chauhan, Bidhi Bisht and Arnav Bhasin.

 

Pushpa: The Rise
Release date: January 7
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

After its box office success, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise can be now watched at home.

Like our review says, ‘Even though the plot is predictable, Allu Arjun’s swag makes this film an edge-of-the seat action-drama.’

 

Human
Release date: January 14
Where to watch? Disney+Hotstar

A medical drama, Human deals with the practice of new medicines being tried upon humans before being put out for mass circulation.

This is a common practice, but Producer Vipul Shah shows its ugly side here.

Shefali Shah returns to the OTT space after Delhi Crime as a doctor and she is joined by Kirti Kulhari.

 

Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhen
Release date: January 14
Where to watch? Netflix

A dramatic thriller, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhen is rooted in the heartland.

Surprisingly, it hasn’t been promoted much despite the presence of Shweta Tripathi and Tahir Raj Bhasin.

The promo of this Web series promises a gritty romantic drama.

Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done Yet
Release date: January 28
Where to watch: Netflix

Kapil Sharma will share his life story, narrated in a way he is best known for.

From his ‘drunk’ tweet — which he says cost him Rs 9 lakh, as he left for Maldives immediately to hide ‘in a room with no Internet’ — to working in the industry for 25 years, the stand-up act will have it all.
