Friends fans have taken to social media to point out that Matthew Perry's iconic character, Chandler Bing, eerily predicted that he would pass away first.
It comes after the actor tragically died on Saturday, 28 October, at the age of 54 after being found dead in his jacuzzi. He had been candid with fans about his battle with drugs and alcohol addiction, which included 15 trips to rehab and $9 million spent on trying to get clean.
TMZ reports that first responders were called to his home after reports of a cardiac arrest, with Matthew losing his life due to an apparent drowning accident.
Now, a fan page for his character, Chandler Bing, has posted a famous quote from the character that foreshadowed his death.
Chandler_bingofficial posted a screenshot of Chandler saying: "I guess I'll be the one who died first."
The famous quote came from season nine, episode eight in which Monica Geller warned her friends to be careful with her fancy China dinner set.
But despite this, Chandler clumsily managed to smash all of her beloved plates, leading to a joke that he would be the one to 'die first' because his on-screen wife was going to kill him.
Fans of the show were quick to take to social media to comment on the post, with one person writing: "My guy predicted it, nah this ain't it," with a sad-faced emoji.
Another wrote: "Omg, I remember that," followed by a heartbroken emoji.
A third person penned: "Friends will never be the same," while a fourth added: "It will never be the same without you. I am broken."
It comes as tributes for the star also poured in from his fellow Friends cast members.
Maggie Wheeler, 62, who portrayed Chandler's on-off girlfriend Janice Hosenstein in Friends, was among the first to speak out.
"What a loss. The world will miss you Mathew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared," Maggie wrote with a red heart emoji.
Paget Brewster who played Chandler’s girlfriend Kathy in season four of Friends, also wrote: “He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after.
"Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won’t rest in peace though. He’s already too busy making everyone laugh up there.”
Morgan Fairchild who played Chandler's mother Nora Bing expressed her sorrow on Twitter, writing: "I'm heartbroken about the untimely death of my 'son', Matthew Perry.
"The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock. I'm sending love & condolences to his friends & family, especially his dad, John Bennett Perry, who I worked with on Flamingo Road & Falcon Crest. #RIPMatthew."
Selma Blair, who portrayed Chandler's co-worker Wendy in an episode of Friends, also added: "My oldest boy friend. All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I'm broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams."
