Meghan Markle’s many engagement ring changes – and it wasn’t her choice

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring has changed multiple times over the years – but it wans’t always her decision.

Prince Harry proposed to the former Suits actress in 2019, with him designing the three-stone ring with the help of the late Queen Elizabeth’s jeweller, Cleave & Company.

It also has a special meaning, with its large centre diamond sourced from Botswana, where Meghan and Harry spent time together early in their relationship.

The two stones on either side are also from the late Princess Diana’s jewellery collection.

Speaking of the ring during the couple’s engagement interview, the former Suits actress exclaimed: “It’s beautiful, and he designed it, it’s incredible.”

Of the ring, the Duke of Sussex said in a BBC interview: “The ring is yellow gold, because that’s [her] favourite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana.

“The little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection to make sure that she’s with us on this — on this crazy journey together.”

Since getting engaged over five years ago, the ring has had a few upgrades, but this wasn’t Meghan’s doing.

Prince Harry chose to upgrade the band at the time that he ordered a bespoke eternity ring for his wife as a gift for their first wedding anniversary.

In the royal biography, Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand explain: “On May 19, 2019, Harry also surprised his wife of one year with the gift of a ring that he had created with jeweller-to-the-stars Lorraine Schwartz, a favourite of Meghan’s.

“The conflict-free diamond eternity band paid homage to the family of three with Meghan’s, Archie’s and Harry’s birthstones (peridot, emerald, and sapphire, respectively) on the underside of the ring.”

Meghan now elegantly wears her gold wedding band between the two rings.

The jeweller told Omie and Carolyn that Harry wanted to make eternity “special”.

In a recent photograph, Meghan met up with her friends for belated birthday drinks, but she was not wearing her engagement ring.

The actress decided not to wear her £156,000 engagement ring for her day out at an undisclosed restaurant.

However, there is not a surprising reason for this, with sources telling Page Six that Meghan is simply “getting her ring fixed”.

The source also rubbished any split rumours as to why the former actress was seen without her engagement ring.

They confirmed: “It’s not true, it’s literally made up.”
